Canon R6 and 1DX Mark III both get Canon Log 3 and simultaneous video recording on two cards

Canon has released new firmware for the EOS R6 (version 1.4.0) and the EOS 1DX Mark III (version 1.5.0). The EOS R6 and the 1DX Mark II finally benefit from some features requested by users since the first announcement of the cameras.

EOS R6 Version 1.4.0

So what’s new in version 1.4.0? Below you can see:

Firmware version 1.4.0 incorporates the following enhancements and fixes:

  • Add [Canon Log 3] at [Canon Log settings].
  • Simultaneous video recording on card 1 and card 2 has been added
  • Improves operating stability when using the RF400mm F2.8 L IS USM and RF600mm F4 L IS USM
  • Fixes an issue in which, when connecting to HDMI, if the camera screen turns off, a zebra pattern is displayed through the HDMI output
  • Fixes an issue in which sufficient image stabilization effects may not be achieved immediately after starting shooting

The two biggest additions are obviously the addition of Canon Log 3 and the ability to record movies simultaneously on two cards.

Firmware version 1.4.0 is intended for cameras with firmware up to version 1.3.1. If the camera firmware is already version 1.4.0, there is no need to update the firmware.

Firmware version 1.5.0 for the 1DX Mark III incorporates the following enhancements and fixes:

  • Add [Canon Log 3] at [Canon Log settings].
  • Support for RAW movies shot with Canon Log 3 and RAW (Light) will be available in a future version of Cinema RAW Development and in Digital Photo Professional software
  • Support for processing RAW movies shot with Canon Log 3 and Viewing LUT application will be available in a future version of Digital Photo Professional software
  • Simultaneous video recording on card 1 and card 2 has been added, but RAW videos and RAW (Light) videos cannot be recorded on card 1 and card 2 simultaneously
  • Support for the Video Performance Guarantee Profile (VPG 400), a standard based on the CFexpress 2.0 specification, has been added
  • Addresses an issue in which there are rare cases where the shooting settings for Still Photo mode are retained when a user enters Movie mode

The 1DX Mark III, just like the R6, finally has the ability to capture in Canon Log 3 as well as record video simultaneously on two cards. You should know that you cannot record canon RAW Lite to two cards at the same time.

Firmware version 1.5.0 is intended for cameras with firmware up to version 1.4.0. If the camera’s firmware is already version 1.5.0, there is no need to update the firmware.
