HP increases subsidy to SC families for the purchase of tools and sewing machines

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Friday announced an increase in the grant to Scheduled Caste families for the purchase of tools and sewing machines and also said to appoint a university library in each district after Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar “as a mark of respect”. to the principal architect of the Indian Constitution”.

Thakur announced that the subsidy for the purchase of tools would increase from Rs 1,300 to Rs 5,000 and that for the sewing machine from Rs 1,800 to Rs 5,000.

Chairing the Himachal Pradesh Scheduled Castes Welfare Board meeting in Dharamshala, the CM said the main concern of the state government was to uplift people belonging to the community and the top priority was to ensure that they benefit as much as possible from social protection programmes. He said a transparent mechanism should be adopted to ensure that a genuine beneficiary is not deprived of being selected for various social protection schemes. He said full transparency must also be ensured in the selection of BPL families from the SC community.

Thakur said the state government has built Ambedkar Bhawans in all Assembly constituencies. He said about 51 have already been completed and the rest are in various stages of completion.

The CM said the state government had launched a special recruitment drive to fill the backlog of SC vacancies in government jobs and ordered the police to take tough action in cases of atrocities against people belonging to this community. Sufficient funds have been made available to provide water, paths and streetlights in SC-dominated villages, he added.

The state government has recently decided to raise the income limit for availing the benefits of various welfare schemes for this community from Rs 35,000 to Rs 50,000 per annum, he noted.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Sarveen Chaudhary said Rs 929 crore was spent on providing social security pension to different categories in the state in the current financial year .
