HP to form committee to streamline market fees

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Wednesday announced the formation of a committee to be headed by the Agriculture Secretary to streamline market fees on commodities in the state in order to facilitate traders.

After a meeting with the HP Veopar Mandal, Thakur said the state government is committed to the welfare of traders and has launched several programs for their welfare.

The state government has launched various programs for their smooth running of business and it has improved its ranking in the ease of doing business from 16th to 7th.

He said the GST Advisory Committee would be formed at state, district and Tehsil levels to ensure better coordination between government and traders. The decision would also reduce attendance at government offices, the CM said, adding that the government will sympathetically consider the request to set up the Traders Welfare Fund to help traders and their families in distress.

He further said that the government would also look into the issue of integrating traders into the group insurance scheme.

“The state government recently launched the Tax Haat program to address compliance-related questions and issues to stakeholders in a timely manner and to inform them of ongoing changes in GST legislation and procedures.

The department is also focusing on increasing voluntary compliance for improved GST revenues.

Also, all irrelevant rules would be removed to ensure a good attitude among traders. And Trader Welfare Council meetings would be held regularly so issues relating to trader welfare could be discussed, the CM said.

The CM said the government would also ensure that health officials or any government authority taking samples from shops immediately make payment in this regard to traders.

The state government would also streamline the opening and closing hours of stores and other business establishments to help traders protect their interests.

State Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj, Minister of Education Govind Singh Thakur, Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Rajinder Garg attended the occasion among others.
