‘Moon Knight’ Hid A Canon-Changing Kang Easter Egg In Plain Sight

The four first episodes of moon knight were light on Marvel Cinematic Universe references, as the Disney+ series instead focused on telling a standalone story about Marc Spector (Oscar Isaac). One could therefore be forgiven for doubting moon knightMarc Spector’s real place in the MCU, or what Marc Spector’s future could be after the end of season 1.

That said, moon knight Episode 3 includes a very brief, easy-to-miss Marvel Comics Easter egg that references a variant of none other than Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors).

A memorable design — In the first half of moon knight Episode 3, Marc d’Oscar Isaac tracks down and confronts a group of followers of Ammit in the hope of gaining information from them. The encounter doesn’t go as well as he hoped, but during this sequence, Marc confronts a cultist in a blue denim jacket.

On the back of the jacket is a pharaoh design which, as several keen-eyed Marvel fans have noted, bears a striking resemblance to the helmet worn by Rama-Tut, a time-traveling variant of Kang the Conqueror and becomes an Egyptian pharaoh. . New Rockstars even confirmed with the members of the moon knight the production team that the jacket design was intentionally included as a reference to the Marvel Comics villain.

Kang’s variants — It’s been almost two years since Jonathan Majors was cast as Kang the Conqueror next year ant man 3, and nearly a year since he made his near-debut as a character in the Loki Season 1 finale. The villain wasn’t really referenced in any of the post-Loki titles, which makes moon knightRama-Tut’s brief Easter egg is exciting, though there’s always been reason to believe the Disney+ series might reference the character.

In the comics, both Khonshu and Marc Spector have a shared history with Kang the Conqueror. The former frequently called upon his Moon Knights to stop Kang at various times over time, and took Marc Spector back in time to fight Kang whenever he deemed it necessary. Khonshu, in particular, even had a few direct confrontations with the Rama-Tut variant of Kang.

With all of this in mind, it makes sense that moon knight would refer to Rama-Tut. However, does the Easter egg itself mean that Rama-Tut or Kang will actually appear in moon knight? The likelihood of that happening seems low based on how much Marvel has worked to keep moon knight separated from the rest of the MCU, but there’s still a chance Kang could make an appearance.

the Reverse Analysis – After Kang’s explosive debut in Loki Season 1, it’s been somewhat disappointing to see the character fade away over the past few months. Despite its multiversal premise, the character was not referenced last year Spider-Man: No Coming Home, or in any other non-Loki title that Marvel has released so far.

For this reason, it is really exciting to see moon knight Kang reference. But it remains to be seen if the series’ Rama-Tut Easter egg ends up leading to anything more than a blink-and-you-miss comic book reference.
