The 2023 BMW iX M60 delivers 610 horsepower

New BMW iX is really good, and it won’t be long before this new electric SUV goes on sale in the United States. We’ll get the standard xDrive50 variant first, but at CES 2022 on Tuesday BMW unveiled the next higher-performance version of the iX SUV, the M60.

The M60 uses the same 111.5 kilowatt-hour battery and electric motor configuration as the standard iX. But while the xDrive50 produces 516 horsepower and 564 pound-feet of torque, the iX M60 increases those numbers to 610 horsepower and 811 pound-feet. of torque – when using launch control, anyway. Under normal operating conditions, the iX M60 develops 532 horsepower and 749 lb-ft.

With launch control on, BMW estimates a 0-100 km / h time of 3.6 seconds for the iX M60, which is a second faster than the not-a-slouch iX xDrive50. The M60 comes with adaptive air suspension that can automatically level the SUV at each wheel and “compensate for uneven loads,” according to BMW. Variable-ratio steering and larger brakes with blue calipers are standard, as are driver assistance technologies such as adaptive cruise control, park assist, and more.

The M60 benefits from the iX’s backlit wood and glass controls.


Regarding the range, the official EPA numbers are still to be determined. For now, BMW estimates a range of 280 miles for the iX M60 when equipped with its small 21-inch wheels; the bigger 22 will surely hamper the range a bit. For comparison, the iX xDrive50 should travel around 300 miles per charge. And like the xDrive50, the iX M60 can accept fast DC charging at speeds of up to 250 kilowatts, which means the battery can go from 10% to 80% of its capacity in about 35 minutes.

Inside, the M60 isn’t that different from the other iX models, which is fine with us. The interior of the iX is awesome – spacious, well-designed, and absolutely packed with tech. BMW’s iDrive 8 software runs the show on a curved infotainment screen, and the M60 comes standard with a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, keyless entry, ventilated seats, and all heated. Seriously. The seats, steering wheel, armrests, door panels and dashboard all feature radiant heat.

Due to the extra power and added standard features, the iX M60 won’t be cheap. BMW has confirmed that the M60 will cost $ 106,095, including the $ 995 destination charge, making it roughly $ 22,000 more expensive than the iX xDrive50. It’s not a stupid change, but the iX M60 also seems to be a lot of EVs. Expect it to arrive at BMW dealerships in June.
